【明報專訊】American educational psychologist Michele Borba has suggested the idea of "five building blocks of self-esteem". The five building blocks are:

◆Security (安全感)

Having a feeling of comfort and safety and knowing what is expected and there are people you can rely on

◆Selfhood (獨特感)

Acquiring self-knowledge and a feeling of individuality with accurate and realistic self-description

◆Affiliation (聯繫感)

Feeling approved of, appreciated, and respected by others and having a sense of belongingness and acceptance, particularly in relationships that are considered important

◆Competence (能力感)

Being aware of one's own strengths, being able to accept personal weaknesses and having a feeling of success and accomplishment.

◆Mission (方向感)

Setting realistic and achievable goals and willing to take responsibility, together with a feeling of purpose and motivation in life.
