【明報專訊】The 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition (2010台北國際花卉博覽會) opened on November 6. This is the first time Taiwan has organised such a huge Flora Expo. Fifty-nine cities around the world are represented at the 171-day event. One of the world's flower kingdoms, Taiwan is believed to be able to grasp this opportunity to demonstrate to the world its competence in technology, culture and environmental protection. The show is expected to draw at least 8 million visitors.
The theme of the 2010 Flora Expo is "Flowers, Rivers, a New Horizon (彩花、流水、新視野)". It would demonstrate human growth in harmony with nature. The event also highlights environmental protection on the basis of 3Rs and 3Gs:
3R: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
3G: Green buildings, Green Energy,
Green Transportation
The exhibition covers over 90 hectares, and its 14 pavilions show over 30 million stems of flowers of over 3,300 species. Taiwan being well known for its orchids, over 800 species of them are on display. Never have so many orchid species been put on display at a single show.
